Everyday Ortolans

Everyday Ortolans

by Mel Sherrer

Eviscerating a mango,

getting fruit flesh
between my teeth,
gnawing over a pile
of saucy chicken wings,
picking through bony shells
of seafood,

with you
I am never ashamed
to eat,

unshrouded,
a songbird in my mouth.
