My heart is a mouth

My heart is a mouth

by Tori Lee

My heart is a mouth,
a wide, angry pit.

Venomous whispers ooze
from a cave of dry lips.

Teeth are pounding,
like heavy yellow fists.

She rattles wet walls
in her ivory cage.

Beneath skin paper thin,
oceans of impotent rage.

She’s devoured everything.
I am left hollow.

She’s yearning for something
new to swallow.
