Bush Fire

Bush Fire

By Akleyiaha R.

It began quietly.
Timid inklings of fire snailing through
fallen leaves in search
of a wafting breeze
to feed on.
And the wind did come;
making monsters of dwindling flames;
bold, big bellied,
ravishing through blankets of green.
Had it not been
for the careless fling of that
last Du Maurier
there would be no ocean of ash
where pulsing hearts once lived.
