Holy Rollin’

Holy Rollin’

by Alyssa Rafferty

The penultimate act of rebellion
A combination of sweet tobacco
And sour diesel
The ink smudges on my fingers
Of the words that determined my childhood
Told me how to think and act and feel
now burn in my lungs.
“Therefore I despise myself, and repent in dust and ashes.”
