November special announcements

Readers, writers, friends —

Sage Cigarettes Magazine restructured in July 2022, moving from an issue-based, periodic submission schedule into a blog-based, rolling submission format. This was the right move for us, but as we’ve gained our footing & shifted our focus, there have been elements of the magazine that initially & still are very important to us that got put on the back burner.

With this in mind, we are looking to branch out to better utilize our current team, welcome a new editor on board, & offer unique new opportunities to on our platform.

Where our current team is involved:

  • Going forward, our writer outreach editor Nicole Yurcaba will be focusing solely on book reviews. In addition to her own reviews, she will be continuing to accept submissions from reviewers & managing review requests from authors.
  • Our Sage Bytes editor Candria Slamin will be converting her section into a column under editor Mel Sherrer’s pop culture domain. All gaming-related content can be submitted directly to the pop culture department.
  • EIC Stef Nunez will be reviving our artist interview series #SageTalks. She will open submissions for interviews completed by independent journalists as well as manage review requests from authors, musicians, artists, game-designers — pretty much anyone creating something interesting.

Welcoming a new editor:

  • Prolific Sage Ciggs contributor Sadee Bee will be joining our staff as our visual arts editor. Sadee is an exceptional fiction writer, poet, & visual artist. Adding her to the team will allow us to open submissions for visual art & allow us to promote more of our contributors’ work across platforms with visual elements like Instagram. If you are interested in sending work her way, please check out her submissions guidelines.

New creative opportunities:

  • We’re looking for regular columnists willing to write about craft, literary criticism, or pop culture topics. Columnists will work directly with staff editors & can post as frequently as they prefer as long as posts come in regular intervals. For more information, check out our pitch form.
  • Fiction editor, LE Francis, has opened up a special submission call for serial stories. These are stories that run longer than the usual 4k short story word limit. For more information, read her updated submission guidelines.
  • As an aside, anyone who qualifies for an interview (authors, musicians, artists, game-designers — pretty much anyone creating something interesting.) & wants to talk horror movies can submit opinions on upcoming movies or request to appear on an episode of our horror movie review podcast A Ghost in the Magazine. We are on our third year of the podcast & have recently really enjoyed opening up the conversation to include takes from folks on our socials & would love different voices & perspectives as we move forward. You can submit opinions on upcoming picks, questions/comments, or cohost requests to hosts@ghostinthemagazine.site or hit us up on Discord or Twitter.
  • We have started a Sage Cigarettes Productions Discord server to offer a place to have conversations about writing craft, creativity, horror movies, & anything else. Anyone can join but regular contributors & potential columnists are particularly encouraged to stop in & say hi.
